Greg LeeMy name is Greg Lee.  Chances are, I’m a whole lot like you.  I started taking piano lessons when I was 9 years old.  We were driving through our neighborhood when we saw a sign advertising piano lessons.  The instructor was also a neighbor of ours.  Her name was actually Mrs. Harp.  Funny her last name would be an instrument.  I took piano lessons from her for a year and after that my school had a community program that allowed me to take lessons during school hours.

After almost three and a half years I had played in two recitals, spent hours on end practicing boring exercises and playing nursery rhyme pieces.  It was more work than fun and my parents had reached the end of their rope with me not practicing and leaving my piano books at home on lesson days.

One afternoon after I got home from school, my dad found out that I left my piano books at home onecreative piano lesson chords time too many.  He was absolutely livid!  He literally ripped my piano books in half and ordered me to go to school the next day and tell Mrs Mittermier (my second piano teacher) that I was quitting piano lessons for good.

I definitely felt like a quitter and it wasn’t until years later when I became an adult that I wanted to take another stab at piano lessons.  After all, I’m an adult now.  I can focus on my piano studies.  I spent just over two years at a performing arts center only to find out that it wasn’t much different than what I went through trying to take piano lessons as a kid.

I thought, what’s wrong here?  This seems to be just as much work as it did when I was twelve.  After my last experience with traditional piano instruction I came to the conclusion that PIANO LESSONS WEREN’T WORKING.  Not for me.  I decided to go at it alone and try to get this piano thing figured out.  At the time the online world was just coming of age with audio and video.-Excellent tools for piano instruction.

I purchased books, videos & audio programs, signed up with online instructors and attended workshops.  This opened up a world of instruction that I never would have dreamed of because the nature of learning how to play the piano as an instrument is so tied to traditional lessons.

My goal was never to learn to be a classical pianist.  I was always interested in playing popular music.  You know, the stuff they played on the radio I listened to as a kid.  With all of the exposure to non-traditional lessons my greatest discovery has been learning to play in the context of chords.  I’ve become obsessed with chords over the years.  So obsessed that I’ve created a system of learning how to play and sound like a professional with chords.  Initially it was to help myself learn to become a more advanced keyboardist.

As I’ve discovered, others have become interested in my learning system because it is so easy to use and learn from.  As I continue my musical journey I’ve discovered that I will always be a student myself and I never want to quit learning new things and developing my music at the keyboard.  I would like to encourage you to do the same.  I want to personally thank you for visiting learncolorpiano.com and I hope that you’ll find some valuable content on your musical journey.  Play on.

  3. Hey greg i want to get your course but i want it in paper version. It will be way easier for me rather than digital download. Can you do that for me? Thanks Ray

    1. Hi Ray, Thank your for commenting. At the present time the course is available as a digital download only. With this being the case, most students just print up the materials as they need them. This cuts down the costs for myself and buyers of the course mainly because of global logistics. Thank again.
